City United Cricket Club

Our
Story

City United Cricket Club has a rich heritage, evolving from four predecessor clubs and situated in the picturesque, heritage-significant Maitland Park.

- Robins Cricket Club (1905): Founded in September 1905, primarily through the efforts of thirteen-year-old, Reuben Argyle Dransfield.

- 1947-48: Introduction of District cricket led most Robins Club players, especially those in higher grades, to join the Central Club, the designated District Club for central Maitland.

- 1958-59: Central Club amalgamated with Marist Bros. to form Combined City.

- 1968-69: Combined City merged with GUOOF (Grand United Order of Oddfellows) to form GUOOF-City.

- 1976-77: Rayoneers Club, formed from the Cortaulds factory at Tomago, joined GUOOF-City, but the first-grade club’s name remained unchanged.

- 1980-81: GUOOF-City changed its name to City United. The following season, City United became one of the eight District teams under the new non-residential basis for District cricket.

Since then, City United has won eleven first-grade minor premierships and contested seventeen first-grade finals, winning five. The most successful period was from 1983-87, with four consecutive first-grade minor premierships.

Home
Grounds

Robins Oval: Located in the centre of Maitland Park, it has been the first-grade home ground with Louth Park and GUOOF used for lower grades. Robins Oval has traditionally hosted MDCA’s first-grade finals and Maitland’s John Bull Shield representative home matches.

Recent Upgrades

Thanks to a substantial NSW Government grant and financial support from Maitland City Council, major renovations and improvements costing $1.5 million have upgraded the Mick Hinman grandstand and facilities at Robins Oval. The upgrades include a refurbished grandstand, new change rooms, a canteen, amenities building, and storage area.
